Journal 28 - 2024 Yearly Roundup

It’s time to reflect on the past year at Mosevic HQ with our 2024 yearly roundup. Over the past twelve months we’ve said goodbye to a team member, hello to a new one, made some giant strides with pivotal innovations and have been lucky enough to collaborate with HPC Laser.

One of the most exciting advances of 2024 has been collaborating with HPC Laser who have helped us achieve our dreams of having our very own in-house laser cutter. All of the etching you see on our frames is now done at the workshop meaning we’re able to fulfil orders more efficiently.

A great advantage of having a laser cutter in-house is that when Jack has a brainwave, he’s able to undertake experiments immediately, allowing us to test out ideas faster and make any adjustments if necessary.

Another huge advancement we’ve made in the past year is the way in which we infuse our denim with resin. Previously, Jack would have to wait until the workshop was empty (as the resin is very smelly) before he could start the process which involved saturating each layer of denim with resin, squeezing and twisting them before laying the pieces down and rolling them to remove any crinkles or bumps.

Take a look at the process in the video below.

As Jack was hard at work designing new and exciting things (keep an eye on social media to find out more), Will and Karl took the resin infusion into their own hands. This is when our new vacuum infusion method was developed. Judging by the name, you can probably guess how the resin is drawn through the layers of denim but if you want to learn more about the process and the developments we’ve made to perfect this method then take a look at Journal 23 - The latest resin innovations at Mosevic!

This method isn’t fast, but it allows us to produce double the amount of material at a time. Jack, Will and Karl are all able to set up and perform the infusion whereas with the previous method, Jack would have to work on his own. This method produces minimal fumes as the resin is contained under the peel ply and mesh. Lastly, a more consistent result is produced as the vacuum applies even pressure over the surface of the layers meaning an equal amount of resin is drawn through each layer of denim.

You might have seen back in August that Jack was advertising for a new member of staff as Laura was sadly (for us) moving on in search of a new adventure. This is where, I (Alice) joined the team and have enjoyed learning more about the production process, getting to know Jack, Will and Karl (and the dogs) and am looking forward to the exciting year that Mosevic has ahead.

As well as our standard frames, we’re always searching for ways in which we can push our designs to produce fresh and exciting products. Recently, we’ve collaborated with local artist folkedelia, who used some of our surplus frames to experiment with.

We’ve got a few more limited-edition ideas which we’ll be exploring in the coming months so stay tuned!

On a more personal note, Penvelope (Jack’s dog) and Slippy (Will’s dog), our two resident workshop dogs have finally become friends. After 18 months of being merely acquaintances, the tables have turned, tails are wagging, Slippy has even taught Penvelope how to play with sticks.

Ted’s wardrobe has been updated! He’s now the proud owner of his very own pair of roller blades, such a fashion icon!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what we’ve been up to over the past year, we’d like to say a massive thank you for your continued support and encouragement!
